interactive Motion Sound System

Technology

iMSS is a tool designed to approach “instrumental scenography

If the “Light Wall System” tool was initially designed for education, the “iMSS” is more intended for creation.

We can now define in real time, the size and position of the regions and have as many independent “Motion” as there are “Sum” and “Centroid”.

There is an OSX compatible software version and also a Raspberry Pi (all in one) version.

These 2 versions communicate via the OSC (Open Sound Control) protocol, compatible with many creation software.

An M4LIVE integration has also been developed allowing real-time “mapping” of capture information to Ableton’s LIVE settings.

The iMSS OSX version is software only, while the Raspberry Pi version combines software and hardware whose case and mounting bracket have been designed and 3D printed at LiSiLoG.

The latter makes it possible to multiply the capture areas over great distances without overloading the main computer thanks to an Ethernet or WiFi network connection.

You can deploy complex multi-camera and remote projects without overloading the computer in the control room; adapt different types of infrared or standard cameras, via a wide range of lenses.

During a residency in March 2020 at the Abbaye de Royaumont, the Raspberry Pi version via a fish-eye lens and installed on the ceiling at less than 4m high, made it possible to capture the entire set, real comfort and efficiency!

The iMSS OSX version allows it to project the image on stage and to associate treatments and textures independently of the analysis.

Workshop

Publics :

  • Choreographers, Dancers, Musicians, Actors, Directors, Circacians…

Goals :

Experimentation and creation of game modes, organic sound/movement links through choreographic and musical proposals.

This system is based on capturing movement via cameras allowing the performer to evolve freely. The movements are analyzed in real time and interact with sound devices. iMSS is a modular, multi-camera tool, oriented for creation via specific developments related to the project.
